This workshop offers an immersive exploration of alternative city perception through creative visual storytelling.
The primary purpose of this workshop is to challenge conventional ways of seeing and representing the city by inviting participants to explore alternative perspectives. Through guided observation and creative experimentation, participants will document urban environments from viewpoints that differ from their own—whether those of individuals with visual, auditory, or mobility impairments, or imaginative non-human perspectives such as birds, ants, cats, dogs, rats, or even superheroes. Key themes include street photography, comic-based visual storytelling, architectural and urban-space observation, alternative city perception, experimental visual production, and inclusivity. By engaging with these themes, the workshop emphasizes how narrative and visual representation shift when the perceived "observer" changes. Academically, the workshop contributes to contemporary discussions on inclusive design, narrative diversity, and multi-perspectival representation in visual communication. Participants will explore how altering the observer's position reshapes both storytelling and spatial interpretation, ultimately synthesizing their insights into a comic-style work. Each participant will produce either a comic-style A2 panel or an A6 booklet using a medium of their choice. These may include photography of urban architecture and public spaces, hand-drawn illustrations, or AI-generated imagery that supports the chosen narrative perspective. Beyond technical and artistic skills, the workshop enables participants to perceive the city through entirely new lenses. It fosters creativity, encourages empathetic engagement with different experiences, and strengthens their ability to construct compelling visual narratives that communicate diverse perspectives.
